The jazz is based on a predominantly European sound system and uses European melody and  Harmonik, musical forms (e.g., song form) and rhythmical basic structures (e.g., march rhythm) from Europe as well as European instruments (wind instruments, piano, guitar, contrabass, big and snare drum, washbasin). The music culture coming from Europe is used in the jazz, nevertheless, in own manner. A special rhythmics referring on movement feeling (swing, grooving), intensive, spontaneous interaction (among other things Call and responses) and a sound education oriented in the vocal expression is central. These elements let themselves lead back all music cultures African on the music feeling.
Also the newer currents of the jazz show single musical and aesthetic characteristic features which they make as a jazz recognizably. To these signs belong beside the Blue Notes: Improvisation, jazz rhythmics with (at least in direction) polyrhythmical character, a special kind of the sound education (e.g., Schleiftöne, Multiphonics) and instrument treatment, stylistic individuality of single musicians and a traditional relation on preceded styles of the jazz history. |
