New Orleans Jazz PDF Print E-mail
With new Orleans jazz one marks a style direction of the actual, classical jazz between 1890 and 1928 (mainly into the 1920er years), designated after its place of origin and most important center New Orleans. The historical predecessor was the music of the Street of volume: Marches, hymns, (Negro) Spirituals and Blues. Also the rising up time flowed into that new Orleans jazz. This is still strongly oriented at the afro American music tradition.

A subspecies formed in the French coined/shaped quarters new Orleans: the Creole jazz. It was coined/shaped by Spanish, French and Latin American dances. In the 1940er and 1950er years experienced that new Orleans jazz one Renaissance (new Orleans Revival), exactly the same as the white adversary, the Dixieland.

Style characteristics
End 19. Century merged the different influences into the first full-trained style of the jazz, which was called after the place of its emergence new Orleans jazz. Here cornet or trumpet carried the melody, while the clarinet played richly verzierte Gegenmelodien and the trombone rhythmic Slides as well as gave the basic tones of the chords and harmonies. Tuba or retort bass put a bass line, the Schlagzeug under this standard tripartite group contributed the rhythm. VitalitĂ€t and dynamics were more important than musical refinement, and the improvisation was accomplished by several voices of the ensemble (group, Tutti or collective improvisation). Are also important the Call and Response Pattern and “dirty clay/tone” (also Blue Notes, special Gesangstechik with intentionally „impure “tones), or elements from the Blues like the 12-taktige the Bluesschema. Contrary to the Offbeat Spielweise, where the 2nd and 4th ZĂ€hlzeit are stressed in each case, pieces of the new Orleans jazz exhibit rather an even stress of all ZĂ€hlzeiten. “More springily with springs” a swinging rhythm according to the Offbeat principle mints itself in particular in Chicago jazz.

Occupations
One divides volume here typically in melody and group of rhythms. First has often 3 members and latter often four, and it very often runs out in the sum also in the case of varying occupations on seven musicians altogether. At this number the total sound smears still rarely with a group Improvisation to an undifferentiated hodge-podge, which happens at a larger number more easily.
Melody instruments cornet or trumpet - melody; Clarinet - richly Gegenmelodien verzierte; Trombone - ryhthmische Slides or basic tones of the chords, harmonies; rarely saxophone
Group of rhythms piano, banjo and possibly guitar; Bass or tuba - bass line, rarely bass saxophone; Schlagzeug

Origin
Around 1900 new Orleans prevailed compared with other American cities relatively free Rassengesetze in the city, which led to the fact that the there relatively numerously existing groups of immigrants, among other things Frenchman and Spaniard had mixed themselves. Particularly two groups of black citizens met one another here and had considerably influence on the development of the new Orleans of style: The group of the black Afroamerikaner faced the Kreolen, which had French roots. It is to be owed to the influence of the Kreolen that in the new Orleans style a so great importance comes to the clarinet, since it was very popular in France at the time at that time. One of the most well-known performance places was the Preservation resounds in the French Quarter.
